This is just a fanfiction on Snape's childhood meetings with Lily.
This is an excerpt from the first part. Here is what happens before this scene: Lily and Petunia Evans are lost in Spinner’s End where they meet Severus for the first time. He see’s Lily possessing magically ability. He tells her little about being a witch and Hogwarts until petunia takes her away from him. He then spies on Lily in the afternoons when his parents are fighting. And then this happens next:
Also, please note that what i write is not exactly the same as Snape’s life, as written by Jk. I simply changed a few aspects from it so that it would make a better story to write. So don’t go crazy over this fact. Give me your thoughts.
Now here is the story:
“STOP! STOP IT!”
Crash. The sound of a hardcover book hits the floor, echoing through the small room. Small signs of movement occur. Another crash. The room was no bigger than a bathroom and judging from its dungeon-like quality, it had never seen daylight. A brown tattered armchair sat alone in the corner, unnoticed by the man and the women for it camouflaged with the brick wall behind it.
“How dare you?”
A short, stubby man spoke. His ears seemed to grow out of his face, looking fit to be a clown. His hair was messy and untidy and hung on his head dancing frantically at every word he spoke.
“Just leave with your fancy magic stick! Leave!”
He looked disgusted by her. A dark woman appeared from where the book now lay. Her hair was black and neatly braided down to her waist. She wore long black robes that were tattered at the ends. Her pale, white skin was what made her visible from the darkness in the tiny room. But her voice boomed louder than the man’s and they began their fight once more. Two pairs of eyes watched them, anxiously. He had not spoken a word or made any sign of movement. If it wasn’t for the fear stitched across his face, he might have looked dead.
Another book was thrown and this time it had a direct hit. At the furious scream of his mother, the boy stood up from the armchair and left the room. He darted past his father, and slammed the door to his screams.

“Severus!”
Her voice brought him back to reality. Severus had walked nearly a mile from where he lived. The industrial wasteland of Spinner’s End had disappeared and he was now standing at the far end of the city. Giant unearthly trees stooped over Severus, making him feel smaller than he was. Houses looked more welcoming and the sweet scent of dew drifted through the neighbourhood. It was Lily’s voice that made a smile spread across his crooked face.
“Severus,” she said again.
Severus glanced about. “Don’t worry,” her voice calmed him, “Tuney isn’t here. How are you?”
“Fine,” it came out as a whisper.
“Are your parent’s still fighting?”
“Yeah, but it doesn’t matter.”
Lily looked at him carefully, examining every aspect of him. His pants were fading from black to grey and hung about 3 inches above his ankles. His shirt stooped over him like a dress. It was filthy and much too tattered to be worn. Even though the weather was much too hot, a large, ragged coat hung at his shoulders. Severus looked too small for his clothes. He was skinny and lanky and his outfit looked like it was made three generations before him. She glanced at his face now. Looking flushed he slightly stepped back. Lily did not back away.
Greasy, jet black hair covered the majority of his face. A slightly crooked nose poked free from the hair and stood in the sunlight. His black eyes starred back into the green, innocent eyes of Lily’s.
“I hope it gets better,” she said, breaking their glaze.
“It won’t,” Severus whispered to himself. Lily did not hear.
The remains of a deserted playground surrounded waited ahead. Behind Severus, a huge chimney occupied the faint skyline. The two began their walk to the playground, speaking little of importance. Severus awkwardly answered Lily’s questions explaining to her his family.
“So that place me and Tuney first saw you, is that where you live?”
“Yeah, Spinner’s End,” croaked Severus, “You don’t want to hang around there, if they see you using magic the muggles might hurt you.”
“Oh,” Lily did not understand. She continued, “Mug-g-gle, that’s the word for people who don’t have magic?”
Severus laughed at her pronunciation. She giggled too.
“My dad’s a muggle. My mom’s a witch. I can tell, you’re a witch too. I saw what you did to that flower last time; it’s brilliant, isn’t it?”
Lily looked away. “That’s not what Tuney thinks. She says I’m mental. Mum and dad are worried too.”
“Mental?” Severus looked disbelieved, “You are not mental Lily Evans. You just have muggle parents, that’s all. You will be a beau—er, magnificent witch when you get to Hogwarts. You’ll see.”
“You have to tell me more about it.”
A short distance from Lily, two children sat on swings, barley moving. They had reached the playground. Sand that had once occupied the ground had turned into tiny pebbles and grass seemed to be growing from the most unusual places. “Let’s talk over there,” Lily pointed towards a tree.
Nodding in agreement Severus followed her, his head hung low. Lily giggled. “Why are you laughing?” he looked self-conscious.
“Your expression,” she giggled once more.
When they finally approached the tree, Lily lied down under it. The grass beneath her seemed to match identically to her eyes. Her red hair looked fiery and threatening on the ground, but her smile made her look angelic. Severus starred greedily. His life was depressing and he was sick of it, but now an angel has entered it. How could he not resist? She was his only hope.
“Tell me about Hogwarts, Sev.”
“Hogwarts?” said Severus. “Well, mum told me that it‘s incredibly big. You’re muggle-born so you’ve probably never seen anything like it before.”
“Do you think you have?” Lily asked innocently.
Severus thought and replied with an honest, “No.”
Of course he would never have seen anything like Hogwarts. He didn't ever see much. He had no sister or brother to take care of or talk to. He had to face his parents alone. Watch them fight, and watch his mother lose. Severus twitched slightly, which was caught by Lily.
“What else should I know about Hogwarts?”
“Well,” Severus thought back to a memory that seemed too long to remember. “Mum also told me about the Sorting Hat. When you get to Hogwarts they take you to the Great Hall. There are four tables, each for the different houses; Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. All the first years sit down on a stool and get the Sorting Hat put on their heads. Then the Hat shouts out which house they—"
“The hat shouts! It can talk!?”
“Yeah,” Severus smiled, “You’ll see.”
Lily accepted Severus’s words to be fact and moved on. “Why does the hat have to decide which house we belong to, why can’t we choose?”
He had never questioned that before and Severus had no answer. He simply said, “Because everyone would choose to be in one house. They might get too many people in one house and few in others. That wouldn't be fair, right?”
A small frown stitched upon her face. Lily was doubtful of Severus’s word this time, but agreed anyways. Severus felt that he had power. For the first time someone had asked him for the facts. Excitement devoured his insides, though he knew not to use it unwisely, it was Lily after all.
“What house do you want to be in, if you had the choice?”
“Slytherin. Just like my mum. What about you?”
Lily grinned. Her face was beaming. “That’s hardly a question,” she laughed, “I’d want to be in the house your in.”
The last words stuck to Severus like glue. He grinned back.
“Why is that?” he questioned.
“You’re the only, er, wizard I know. If I was to trust anyone, Sev, it would be you. You must know that.”
“I do.”
He too lied back now on the grass and looked up at the sky. “You know how you said Hogwarts is for witches and wizards,” she paused and turned her head to him, “Would D--Dum—“
“Dumbledore,” he added.
She smiled, “Would he ever let a muggle to come to Hogwarts, even if she swore never to tell anyone of its existence...?”
“Never. I can’t imagine a muggle at Hogwarts. Er, she wouldn't be able to do anything at Hogwarts anyways, she has no magic,” Severus looked at Lily now and saw that she was close to tears, “She’ll be happier at a muggle school. There she can make um, muggle friends.”
“It’s Tuney,” she announced as if it wasn't already obvious to Severus before. “She’s really mad since you called her a muggle. She says you’re lying to me and that if there really was a Hogwarts they would let her in.”
“I wouldn't lie to you, Lily” just saying the name gave him butterflies. “And they couldn't let her in, she wouldn't fit in. Why does she think they would accept her?”
Lily couldn't hold it, she blurted out everything that Petunia had informed her with. “She says she’s twice the person that you are,” Lily sobbed, “Said that if I believe a word you say she won’t talk to me again and that if you could get into Hogwarts then she can too. She’s my sister, Sev!”
Lily’s pain did not strengthen Severus at all. “Don’t listen to her, she is just,” Severus thought of another word but could not find one so he used the word he knew best, “jealous. You’ll see when you turn eleven. Someone from the school will come and tell your parents. You’re going to be a wonderful witch!”
Lily looked taken back, but a faint giggle broke through from her previous sobbing. She was not used to being called a witch yet. “You really think so?”
“Definitely, everyone will love you,” he regretted it once he had said it. He wanted to be the only one to love her. But her smile made him forget like usual.
Night was slowly drawing near. The two children that had been on the swings had left nearly a half hour ago. Severus and Lily were alone. “Petunia!” Lily gasped.
Severus looked about frantically. He had not wanted to see her, especially now. A head popped up from over the hilltop and slowly a figure of a girl in pigtails emerged. She marched like a soldier, with a mission in mind. Out of breath from the climb over the hill she screamed, “SNAPE BOY! Get away from him Lily Evans! Get away!”
“I’m so sorry Sev. So sorry!” again she looked close to tears.
Severus looked at her carefully; preserving her, then lowered his head and whispered, “Goodnight Lily.”
Again she had not heard. She was already at the hilltop, her sister’s scream fading quickly. That was one scream that Severus could bare.
